I notice s lot of preachers talk about a gift of hospitality when the Bible commands hospitality in Two spiritual gifts passages. If it is a gift it is not enumerated as one in scripture. Hospitality us an expression of grace all Christians should have and a requirement for overseers. It is like saying there is a gift if prayer it a gift to live others or a gift of prayer.

The test reminds me of psychometric tests used by HR that ask the same thing over and over to check for consistency and check for the big 5 or other traits. Like these, it is a self-. It measures how you percieve yourself if yourself at best not necessarily reality.

Did the author run a factor analysis for validity? What about a Chronbach alpha?

I am a little wary of spiritual gifts tests. You can be concerned about something-missions for example- without having a gift in that area. Many tests equate or associate interest with gifting. Moses’ self assessment of his own speaking abilities was that they were poor. I suspect he would not have been accurately labeled by a spiritual gift test.

I recently took a test that had many questions based on the assumption that those who spoke out against sin were prophets. It did not even ask about the gift of prophecy as I recall Those who thought they pioneered stuff ranked high on apostledhip–as if it had to do with traits rather than the Lord’s sending.

In my early 20’s I spoke with a new convert I had just met who was depressed. The young plumber had just taken a spiritual gift test. He gathered from it that the only thing he was gifted to do was to fix stuff around the church. I told him not to worry about the test, pointing to the story of Moses and how God can gift people in areas that are not aligned with their natural talents.

I saw the young man about a year later. He was excited and happy. He talked about how the Lord has been using him to minister to a lot of people and pray with a lot of people.
